Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu observes the 48th Martyrdom Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day 2023


15 August 2023, Kathmandu: Today, the Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu observed the 48th Martyrdom Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day on 15 August 2022 with due solemnity and respect. In the morning, the programme began at the Embassy premises with the hoisting of the national flag by Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury. Then one-minute silence was observed to pay respect to the Father of the Nation and the martyrs of 15 August which was followed by laying flower wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu by the officials of and members of the Bangladesh community. Special prayers were offered for the salvation of the departed soul of Bangabandhu, his martyred family members, martyrs of 15 August and for valiant freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifice for the country during the Liberation War as well as for the peace and prosperity of the country.

In the discussion session organized on the significance of the day, messages given by President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out and a documentary on the life, achievements and sacrifice of Bangabandhu was screened. During the discussion, the discussants recalled with deep respect the various aspects of life, sacrifices, and philosophy of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his contribution to the formation of an independent sovereign country. They said that although the assassins killed Bangabandhu, they could not kill his ideals, dreams and philosophy and Bangladesh under the able leadership of his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is moving ahead towards the realization of Sonar Bangla. 

In the closing remarks, the ambassador paid deep homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and respectfully remembered Bangabandhu's towering personality, courage, and visionary leadership in the creation of independent Bangladesh. He highlighted that Bangabandhu, the poet of politics, was gifted with extraordinary organizational capacity and throughout his life struggled for the emancipation of the oppressed humanity. The Ambassador called upon everyone to join hands in the development of the country by following the ideals of Bangabandhu.
