From 2021, the Government of Bangladesh is issuing e-Passports to its citizens. Holders of old MRP passports can apply for e-Passport at the Embassy.


Birth Registration Certificate (BRC) is mandatory for the applicant of below 18 years old and both Birth Registration Certificate and passports are mandatory for any applicant above 18 years of age.


Please note that it may require 6-8 weeks (sometimes more than that) to get a passport prepared from Dhaka for delivery to the applicant.


Applicant may check the status of passport by email or over phone. If the status is 'Ready for Delivery', the applicant needs to come to the Embassy in person along with his/her previous Bangladeshi Passport and delivery slip. The new passport will be handed over along with old Passport (after cancellation).


The applicant may also authorize someone else to collect his/her passport. In that case, a handwritten authorization letter in the name of the authorized person along with his/her own ID Card will necessary as proof of identity.


Application Process

Applicant needs to submit the documents in person directly to the Embassy. He/she must make a prior online appointment for biometric data. An applicant has to submit the following:

  • A copy of duly filled-in application form (with bar code) generated after submission of online application to be found at www.epassport.gov.bd
  • Photocopy of existing NID, Birth Registration Certificate, existing MRP (information page only)
  • Copy of Marriage Certificate (Nikahnama not acceptable) for inclusion of spouse’s name in the MRP.
  • Copy of Divorce Certificate (Affidavit not acceptable) for exclusion of spouse’s name from the MRP.
  • Copy of the valid student ID and certification from educational institute, if applicant is a student (graduate/undergraduate or below) and wants to avail student discount.
  • Proof of payment of required fees to the Embassy Bank account.


Fee

A total amount of USD 110 is to be paid for issuance /re-issuance of e-passport. If application is a student (up to graduate level) he/she gets a special waiver 70%.
